Claire has addressed all speculation as the RTE controversy continues
Claire Byrne has explained her absence from her radio show last week and also revealed her full salary in order to be "honest and transparent" with her listeners.
"I wasn't here on Thursday and Friday just gone and I know some people had linked my absence to the controversy and wondered if I was in some way implicated or involved," Claire said at the top of her show. The presenter added it was "heart-breaking" to hear how let down members of the public felt by the revelations.
Claire went on to reveal how much exactly she has earned from RTE for hosting Today with Claire Byrne, Claire Byrne Live, and her most recent TV venture, quiz show Ireland's Smartest. "In order to be fully transparent with you here today, I want you to know that my RTE fee now is €280,000. That fee was agreed for presenting this programme and that last contract was negotiated by Noel Kelly.
