Claire Byrne has found a new home in Newstalk. You can find her on air Monday to Friday, 9am-12pm. She also hosts her own podcast, Never Have I Ever.

She has a tight schedule, driving straight home to her kids Patrick, Jane and Emma as soon as her show wraps. But we manage to steal some time from her for the September issue of VIP Magazine.

She’s our fabulous cover star, and we chat about it all – about howshe finds it hard to switch off, how routine suits her, how a form of balance has been achieved with her new schedule, how she never has a plan but bounces from opportunity to opportunity, how college was overwhelming coming from a small rural village. And why she’s let go of perfectionism and is no longer attempting to bake cakes — metaphorical or otherwise — at the end of a long working day.

“I’m not striving to be the perfect everything anymore,” she explains. “You can’t be, and we’re all learning all of the time anyway. And I just think it is a much healthier place to be to accept that and to represent that for other women. I can’t do everything.

“I would love to be able to be somebody who can work full time and bake cakes at the end of the day, but I cannot do that and so I don’t pretend to. And I am comfortable saying that now. ”Related Stories
