Referencing the anti-Vietnam War protests that swept US universities in the 1960s and 70s she said the Trinity were proudly standing in that tradition

MEP Clare Daly has praised pro-Palestinian students who set up a protest encampment at Dublin's Trinity College and claimed they are making history. In a speech she said their actions, which are aimed at breaking Trinity’s investment and academic ties with Israel, will “change history”.The protests have led to the university being off limits to the public and has meant that the historic Book of Kells cannot be viewed by tourists who booked to see it.

She said she realised that those involved are putting their future careers on the line by staging the protest. “Not only has the European Union and United States not done that in silence, they have actually enabled and supported that, is the level of their complicity. The MEP also referred to the armament of Israel by the UK, US and Germany as well as Ireland’s exporting of restricted dual-use goods to Israel that have potential for military purposes.
