Clare's attention shifts from the League title to their upcoming clash against Kilkenny, as players are determined to win silverware.

For the 70-plus minutes last Saturday, the League title was all that mattered for Clare - until suddenly it didn’t. The two form teams in the country went head to head on a soft-looking pitch in Thurles and on the sideline too, where Brian Lohan and Derek Lyng fronted up to each other.

That sentiment came across in the various post-match interviews by players and management too - Limerick were on their minds now. They know full well that the League title won’t mean a thing if they get turned over in Ennis next weekend, and that’s a great position to be in going into a game like that.

With the speed and power that they have, they are very formidable when they run at teams but, typically, Kilkenny battled away and stayed in it. They even had a penalty late on which could have ultimately won it for them. But imagine the noise if he strips off on the sideline with 20 minutes to go in Ennis on Sunday week. It’s one of so many possible subplots. Cusack Park is going to be something else that afternoon.

Against Galway barely a month ago, the perception was that they have more options than ever with Adam English and Cathal O’Neill flying it; it was Declan Hannon’s first game back and Sean Finn was on the way.
