Laura hails from Broadford and is one of two female racing drivers that represented Ireland at the Formula Woman Nations Cup qualifiers in Dubai along 24 other countries
She was one of only two Irish women on the starting grid at the global event which was broadcast to 120 countries and will feature in a docuseries.
She told RSVP Live: “It feels really special. I feel there’s a lot of pressure behind it because we don’t have that stage in Ireland where women are seen to be in motorsport. To be on a global stage is insane to me. I hope that I will make all of Ireland and all women proud - I’m going to try my best.”
“I work a regular 9-5 as well, so most of my on-the-track training is done on the weekends. I travel to England quite a lot. It’s sometimes easier to get to the UK from Shannon Airport than to get to Dublin.” Seemingly the attitude of Formula 1 towards women has changed in recent years, with the sport getting rid of walk-on grid girls in 2018 as it was “at odds with modern day societal norms”.
