Billy Calzada, San Antonio Express-News / Staff photographerAhead of a likely debate over changes to its sex education curriculum, the North East Independent School District board has agreed to clarify how members of its School Health Advisory Committee get appointed.
The turnover will require NEISD officials to rehash a previous briefing on the new curriculum, which is still being developed. Under state law, the SHAC must review and recommend the curriculum, and board members said they wanted to fast-track the changes to its membership and operating procedures so as not to delay that process.because the district couldn’t rewrite itw curriculum in time to meet a deadline to comply with new state standards.
That gives the board time to get a legal review of its new SHAC policies and bylaws in time to adopt them at a special meeting Nov. 28.
