The Cleveland Cavaliers are back in the national spotlight.
. It’s the second straight season the Cavs have started away from home and the fourth time playing against the Raptors in the opener. This year’s marquee matchup goes beyond two Eastern Conference foes expected to compete for a playoff spot. In the tightest race in two decades, Cleveland forward Evan Mobley was edged out by Raptors swingman Scottie Barnes for Rookie of the Year honors -- a fiery debate that adds even more intrigue to the opener.
Aside from Veteran’s Day, there are games on Thanksgiving Eve , New Years Eve , Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Easter . Last year’s 22-game improvement was the second-best in franchise history. Relying on three franchise pillars -- Garland, Mobley and All-Star center Jarrett Allen -- and a few key veteran additions, the Cavs are looking to take the next step and solidify a playoff spot for the first time since 2018. Cleveland, which lost to the Nets and Hawks in the play-in tournament, came close last season.
