Cleveland Sand Fest takes place 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Break out the sunscreen and head to Edgewater Beach for this year’s Cleveland Sand Fest, hosted by the American Institute of Architects’ Cleveland chapter. The fest takes place 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6.
A volleyball tournament and sand-castle competition are open for those who wish to compete, while a community sand pile gives attendees of all ages and abilities the chance to create their own sand castle. Food trucks, including Swensons, Barrio and Cleveland Acai will be stationed at the event, along with Cleveland Water.
The sand-castle competition will be a fierce event, with judging by The Plain Dealer and cleveland.com’s art and architecture critic Steven Litt, Ward 15 Cleveland City Councilwoman Jenny Spencer and a guest from the Cavs, according to a press release. The winner will take home the “Best of the Beach” award.
The event acts as a fundraiser for AIA’s Architecture Construction Engineering program, offering scholarships for college students in architecture fields and education for high schoolers. It was postponed for two years due to the pandemic. In 2019, Sand Fest raised nearly $8,000 for the program, according to a release.
