At first glance, it resembles hundreds of other brilliant English villages... 👀
It's the first day of August, but you're parked and sitting in the car, it's gloomy, breezy and grey and the rain is absolutely lashing down, each drop bouncing off the car roof and trickling down the windscreen like dozens of mini streams.
But there's so much more to discover. Just a four-minute drive away the tree-lined single track road opens up to the best viewing vantage point of Pilling Sands. An untraditional beach that is really a salt marsh, with grass verges, rocky embankment and swathes of sand areas emerging when the tide goes out.A classic picturesque white sandy beach it is not, but it's certainly different with a varied terrain and landscape and offering views out over The Bay.
It's not just about appealing to humans, either, as bugs are welcome, too, with a wooden hotel built especially for critters to check in and enjoy a break away. However, if visitors looking to stay in the area, Fold House Caravan Park is worth a look and you can't miss it, as there's a red and black locomotive parked out front.
You'll find the Pilling Reading Room, a red brick hut with a pristine bowling green at the rear, there's also public toilets and a bird metals sculpture to see. And if you're thinking "but where can I rest with a cup of tea and slice of cake?" then hop back in the car or take the public footpath over to Pilling Village Hall.
