Gearóid Farrelly and Stephen Vincent took on the challenge of dancing to Niamh Kavanagh's 1993 Eurovision winning song 'In Your Eyes' on this week's Dancing With The Stars. The performance impressed both judges and viewers.
It's Eurovision week on Dancing With The Stars , and the pressure was on for one contestant in particular as the original performer of the song he was to dance to was in the audience. Comedian Gearóid Farrelly and his pro dancer partner Stephen Vincent performed a stunning Contemporary Ballroom routine to Gearóid’s friend and podcast co-host, Niamh Kavanagh ’s 1993 winning Irish entry In Your Eyes.
Niamh and Gearóid became friends two decades ago, and she has been a fixture in the audience already this season. Gearóid told presenter Doireann Garrihy after the dance, 'It was lots of pressure. She's a lovely person but as a friend, she will tell you what she thinks!' Jennifer Zamparelli, one of the presenters, said, 'What a belter that tune is, so so good,' before the judges made their critiques. The judging panel consists of Arthur Gourounlian, Loraine Barry, Karen Byrne and Brian Redmond, who gave their thoughts on the performance. Loraine said, 'I am a fan of you two together, I really am. And Gearóid you're so exposed here, direct comparison with Stephen all the time, but this was so beautifully done.' Arthur added, 'Imagine telling 14 year old Gearóid that in 30 years he would be dancing to his friend's song on national television barefoot! Iconic! In my eyes, this partnership is inseparable.' Brian commented, 'This dance was one of beautiful contrast. The contrast between the masculinity of the movements you guys made, paired with the fabulous feminine vocals of Niamh Kavanagh.' Karen concluded, 'What a gorgeous dance to get your toes out!' They took home a total score this week of 31 points. Fans at home watching the show were impressed, with one noting that the comedian may be one to watch at this stage of the competition. 'Goodness, @gearoidfarrelly has some surprisingly great moves. Could be a serious dark horse for the competition,' one viewer said via X. Another offered, 'Gearóid!!!!!! That was beautiful and again the song choice, PERFECT!!!'
