Casual enough to wear with leggings and a hoodie, versatile enough to pair with a skirt and blazer for work
Sarah Finnan; oversized tees are the humblest of wardrobe staples and arguably, the most adaptable too.
If you had asked us three years ago what our post-pandemic wardrobes would look like, I’m sure we’d have given a much different answer to our current reality. Seeing lockdown out in front of our TV sets with only Joe Exotic and Connell Waldron to keep us company, our hearts yearned for the day when we would have an occasion to dress up for; a reason to leave the house. Visions of sequins, tiny handbags and impossibly high footwear danced in our heads as we dreamt up all the ways we would make up for lost time.
Fast-forward to today, when the looming threat of lockdown has thankfully long dissipated, and our dressing habits are much more low-key than we might have anticipated. Comfort still reigns supreme in our day-to-day and now, it’s all about mixing soft-fabric staples with slightly more structured pieces to nail that chic-yet-casual look. The key ingredient? An overszied tee.
Uber comfortable but still possible to dress up, you can wear yours lounging around the house in sloth mode, jaunting around town for a day of errands, or even into work tucked into a pencil skirt. Cosy, versatile and oh-so-cool.* If you find a shirt you like and it’s not already oversized, just go up a few sizes to get that perfectly baggy look.
