Kathleen Barrett is currently in ICU in Letterkenny General Hospital after a fire destroyed her home, leaving her without 'even a pair of socks'

A community has rallied support behind a breast cancer survivor who was hospitalised following a fire that destroyed her home in Co Donegal.

While her beloved collie was thankfully saved by the dedicated fire services who battled the blaze, Kathleen, who recently lost her husband to cancer, has been left with "not even a pair of socks" as she looks to rebuild. “Kathleen is currently in ICU in Letterkenny General Hospital, she is doing well and due to be released soon but has nowhere to go,” a post on GoFundMe set up by Kathleen’s niece Maeve read.

“She has been left with absolutely nothing, not even a pair of socks, it either burned in the fire or is so badly smoke damaged it's unsalvageable.
