Carlow residents honored Mary Regan, who died alone, with a well-attended funeral mass, following an appeal by the local funeral director. Mary, nearly 90, had lived in the town for 20 years with her late partner Fred 'Tony' Long, who visited her daily until his death a year ago.

Mary, who would have turned 90 in March, had lived in Carlow for around 20 years after retiring with her late partner Fred 'Tony' Long. She passed away last Friday at Hillview Nursing Home, two days after the first anniversary of her partner's death.
