An Garda Síochána provides a detailed report on the ongoing homicide investigation regarding the death of Daniel Aruebose, detailing international cooperation and the recovery of his remains.
The tragic case of Daniel Aruebose, a young boy who would now be eight years old, has seen a significant update from An Garda Síochána as the investigation into his death continues nearly a year after critical concerns were raised.
Daniel had resided at The Gallery Apartments in Donabate and is believed to have passed away at some point during 2021. His skeletal remains were eventually recovered in September 2025 following an intensive search of open ground conducted by specialized Garda units. The discovery marks a somber milestone in a case that has shocked the community and highlighted severe lapses in child welfare monitoring. The road to this discovery was marked by a series of red flags.
It was revealed that concerns regarding the boy's welfare first emerged following a routine spot-check of a child benefit claim. Subsequent investigations by the Department of Social Protection found that Daniel had never been enrolled in school, which triggered a deeper inquiry. Records indicate that Daniel had spent time in foster care during his infancy but was later reunited with his biological parents under the supervision of Tusla, the Child and Family Agency.
For several years, there had been no confirmed sightings of the child, leading to a desperate search and the eventual classification of his death as a homicide. The scale of the Garda investigation has been immense, involving a massive deployment of resources and personnel. To date, officers have conducted over 800 separate jobs and collected more than 400 witness statements.
The evidence gathering process has been meticulous, resulting in the retention of over 100 physical exhibits and nearly 300 documentary records. The operation has been centered at an incident room in Swords Garda station, led by a senior investigating officer and supported by Crime East DMR north division, as well as divisional search and scenes of crime teams. The force has also integrated national units such as the Garda National Technical Bureau, air support, and dog units.
Furthermore, the investigation utilized high-level external expertise, including forensic archaeologists and anthropologists, and specialized cadaver dogs from the Police Service of Northern Ireland. Given the complexity of the case, the investigation has extended far beyond Irish borders. An Garda Síochána has engaged in extensive collaboration with international law enforcement agencies. This includes coordination with authorities in the United States to extract data from technology companies regarding social media activity.
Additionally, the force has worked with partners in Brazil, France, the United Kingdom, the Australian Federal Police, the Portuguese Judicial Police, Interpol, and the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates. These international efforts have already yielded results, with two individuals arrested in connection with the murder, including one man who was extradited to Ireland from Brazil. Despite the progress made, the investigation remains active and fully resourced.
A paediatric postmortem examination was carried out on Daniel's remains at the Dublin city mortuary, though the results have been withheld for operational reasons to avoid compromising the ongoing legal process. Gardaí have reiterated their determination to vindicate Daniel's human rights and ensure that his short life is remembered. They are continuing to appeal to the public for any information that could lead to further breakthroughs.
Specifically, anyone who lived in The Gallery Apartments complex in Donabate between July 2019 and the present day is urged to come forward. The authorities emphasize that no piece of information is too insignificant and encourage anyone who had any interaction with Daniel to contact the Swords Garda station or the Garda Confidential Line
