Chief Executive of the Irish Refugee Council has warned against replacing delays 'with fast-track decision making that doesn't consider a person's individual circumstances'
In a statement to RTÉ News, Chief Executive of the Irish Refugee Council Nick Henderson said that while they have been critical of"chronic delays" in the asylum protection process, refugee status determination is"individual" and it"can take time".
Mr Henderson said the fundamental right to apply for asylum"must be protected" and he also expressed other"ongoing concerns", which he said they have highlighted to Government. Mr Henderson also addressed the anti-migrant protests that have been taking place in different parts of the country. However, he also described the"wide societal response" to welcoming refugees from Ukraine and local community organisations coming together in the face of far-right activity.
