The derelict nightclub could be turned into new homes
There is growing opposition to proposed plans to turn a much-loved former nightclub into 23 new homes. Local campaigners say the green space adjacent to the old Shorrocks Hill leisure facility is a place of 'peace and tranquillity' and they are concerned it will be 'destroyed' by the current development plans.
have submitted a series of reports including analysis of the impact of the proposed development on local wildlife and the tree population. There is an acknowledgement that even the dead trees on site and the roof space in the abandoned buildings could be possible nesting spaces for bats, but that no evidence has been found of a local population.
have committed to providing alternative spaces such as bat boxes to be situated around the site to accommodate any possible bat population presently or in the future. In addition to the considerations around possible bat populations, have also committed to 'reasonable avoidance measures' so as to not adversely effect any potential presence of red squirrels, badgers and hedgehog mammals. These include pre-commencement checks for the presence of these mammals, ensuring trenches and excavations have a means of escape and the capping of exposed pipe systems to ensure the mammals' safety.
