The Irish Council of Civil Liberties has raised concerns over the use of CCTV cameras made by a company partially owned by the Chinese Government within Leinster House

THE IRISH COUNCIL for Civil Liberties has raised concerns over the use of CCTV cameras made by a company partially owned by the Chinese Government within Leinster House.

In its letter, the ICCL said that the Chinese Communist Party is a controlling stakeholder in Hikvision and that Italian investigators discovered the cameras reporting back to China. “The cameras are positioned at locations where they can capture video of TDs, Senators and staff, and their private conversations. They may also capture what was said.”Alongside concerns over data being sent back to China, the ICCL says that the cameras are vulnerable to hackers seizing control.
