Wednesday night, a line of fans wrapped around the old Barbara Jordan Post Office, now POST Houston, eager to experience the Motomami World Tour inside 713 Music Hall.
The word Motomami, also the name of Rosalía’s current album, refers to her lifelong love of motorcycles.“There’s so many Motomamis in the world who have inspired me. My mom, my sister, my friend Hunter Schafer. Motomami is an energy. Anyone can be a Motomami, Motopapi. It’s the way you feel. And also, it’s doing as much as you can with what you have,” she told Billboard this year.
The show itself was pointedly presentational, less a standard live performance than a study and subversion of concert tropes. She often used the dancers as props: a wall of bodies that she pushed against, a literal motorcycle she straddled during “Motomami.”
