The UFC's biggest star looks set to finally return to action this summer.
Dana White has given the clearest indication yet that Conor McGregor’s UFC return is imminent. McGregor has been out of action for five years, and while he has often teased a return, nothing has come to pass in that regard.
The Irishman has repeatedly claimed that 2026 was the year of his comeback, and UFC boss Dana White has gone one step further, all but confirming that McGregor will set foot inside an octagon again this summer.
'We are in a great place with Conor . I’m extremely confident that Conor will fight this year, we’ll get him dialled in and ready roll,' said UFC boss Dana White .
“He’s training, there’s footage out there… He’ll fight this summer. I thought it would happen last year, it didn’t, I’m extremely confident it will happen this summer.
“He seems motivated, he’s training, and there are a lot of other great things going on behind the scenes that make me very confident that he will fight this summer. ” Reports have suggested that McGregor will return at UFC 329 in July, with Max Holloway being cited as a potential opponent. Holloway would make perfect sense for McGregor as the two have plenty of history.
The Dubliner got the better of a young Holloway back in 2013, but since that loss, Holloway has gone on to become a UFC legend and is regarded as one of the best featherweights of all time. Should McGregor finally return, it will mark his first UFC fight since he snapped his leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier back in 2021.
McGregor had been due to return to action in 2024 and was signed on to fight Michael Chandler before he pulled out of the fight with the American with a foot injury. Three missed anti-doping tests led to McGregor being suspended for 18 months in September 2024, with that ban ending in March of this year.
