A contract award for a counselling service across Renfrewshire schools has been given the green light by elected members.
They agreed to authorise the council’s head of corporate governance to complete the agreement, worth up to £1.247 million, with specialist organisation Therapeutic Counselling Services at Thursday’s finance, resources and customer services policy board.However, the dates for the contract will be confirmed in a letter of acceptance.health
strategy 2017-27 highlight the significant need to provide opportunities for early intervention and prevention to avoid the unnecessary escalation of emotional distress in children and young people. “By promoting positive mental health in children and young people from an early age, the range of positive school outcomes such as attitudes to learning, better attendance and lower exclusion rates will greatly increase.”
The report also said access to counselling in schools within Renfrewshire will support one of the council’s strategic priorities, which is “to reduce inequalities and deliver improved health and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people”. The service will be universal, meaning it will be accessible to those in primary, secondary and ASN schools, and delivered “predominantly” in a school setting.
