The children's commissioner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza, has joined opposition to the legislation, warning ministers there is not enough protection for asylum seeker children
has staked his premiership on enacting legislation to stop small boats of migrants crossing the Channel, with concessions made to Tory MPs from all wings of the party.
She added: “Modern slavery is the greatest human rights issue of our time. The approach in this Bill, I believe, will have several ramifications. I believe it will consign victims to remain in slavery. Dame Rachel said: “Children must be able to claim asylum and be exempted from the duty to remove them from the country. The circumstances under which the Home Office would remove children under this Bill remains a significant grey area – this must be clarified on the face of the Bill as a matter of urgency.”
The Bill “risks breaching the Refugee Convention by restricting the right to asylum and penalising refugees,” the body warned.
