Housing in Chicago Heights for low-income veterans is being provided by Cook County through a loan program that aims to reduce homelessness in vulnerable communities.

The project is part of $4.25 million in funding for low-income housing in suburban Cook County announced last week. It is steps away from Franciscan Health’s offices in Chicago Heights and is being built on land donated by Franciscan Alliance, which moved most hospital operations from St. James in Chicago Heights to an expanded hospital campus in Olympia Fields.Separately, the county said it is also funding transportation work in the south and southwest suburbs.
The work will include assessment of areas of the roadway needing reconstruction along with upgrading sidewalks, according to the county.
