Cork City have secured the loan signing of 18-year-old Stoke City defender Freddie Anderson for the remainder of the 2025 season. Anderson, the son of former England international Viv Anderson, will gain valuable first-team experience at Turner’s Cross. He recently participated in the USA Under-20 training camp ahead of the Under-20 World Cup in Chile.
The son of former Nottingham Forest, Arsenal, Manchester United and England defender Viv Anderson, the 18-year-old will spend the year at Turner’s Cross. Anderson was this month called into the USA Under-20 training camp, ahead of the Under-20 World Cup in Chile.
He made his Stoke first-team debut in the League Cup last August against Carlisle United, and scored in a 2-0 win. Anderson said: “I’m just delighted to have finally signed. I’m really happy to be given such a great opportunity to play for such a great and big club like Cork City.” Cork boss Tim Clancy added: “Freddie is a very impressive young defender, who we obviously got a close look at in last summer’s friendly. “It’s another deal that we have been working on for a while, so to finally get it done is great, and it’s brilliant that we have him for the full season.” Viv Anderson enjoyed a glittering career, winning two European Cups with Forest, as well as a First Division and a League Cup. He added another League Cup during his time at Arsenal, and an FA Cup at Manchester United, while he was capped 30 times by England.
