His advice for students taking on the Leaving and Junior Cert this week is all about acceptance and perseverance after he went through a huge upset during his own exam period

Matthew Gavin, the founder of ADHD Now, sat his Leaving Cert exams under the most difficult of circumstances.

The week before his exams started, his mother suffered a brain haemorrhage, and Matthew spent his days travelling by bus from the exam hall to the intensive care unit at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. Even though he was coping with this huge upheaval, he did his best and attended each of his exams.Read more: Leaving Cert quiz: How much do you remember of your Irish school days?

"I understand the pressure and anxiety that come with these exams," Matthew says. "But it's important to remember that your results do not define your worth or your future success. I didn't get the results I wanted, but that didn't stop me from pursuing my passions and finding my own path through life."

The businessman's success story proves that there are plenty of pathways to getting where you want to in this life. Diagnosed with ADHD later in life, Matthew struggled through school, often feeling misunderstood."Despite these challenges and not getting my first-choice course, I discovered my passion in business and technology. This led me to a diverse career working with some of Ireland's best known brands. Today, I run a company dedicated to helping others with ADHD.
