One easy change to your washing habits could save nearly €300 alone

The cost of living and spiralling energy costs continue to be of huge concern, with many reports bills from €800 and even higher post Christmas.

With so many struggling, Switcher.ie's Irish energy expert, Eoin Clarke has broken down five easy changes to make that could see you cut €850.72 per year, explaining: “By scaling back some home habits and swapping to smarter, more energy-efficient appliances, you could save hundreds of euro.”Lighten Up On Laundry Reducing your laundry costs by running one less washing machine cycle every week would save you €0.43c per week, that's over €22 per year.

And you could save a further €5.19 a week if you stop using the tumble dryer, with it being one of the most expensive appliances in our homes, using between 2.5-3 kilowatts per hour per hour, so use it sparingly.Cut Out Those Long Showers By cutting down your time in the shower from 15 mins to 10 mins a day you would save up to €2.13 per week - a whopping €111 per year. If you turn the thermostat down a notch you’ll save even more.

When you're upgrading household appliances consider exchanging your corded items to cordless, so you only pay for charging time. You could save around €8.84 per year just by swapping your old upright hoover for a nifty cordless model.Switch It Up Did you know laptops are far more energy efficient than desktop computers? By switching from one to the other you could save yourself up to €2.42 per week.
