'Summer can always be a time of risk for children, but this year, the cost of living crisis is really exacerbating the risk of exploitation of young people', says a Barnardo's policy adviser 🔴 AasmaDay reports

The online YouGov polling of 1,191 parents and carers and 729 children aged 11 to 17 reveals the stark reality ofAlmost half of parents and carers say they will struggle to afford family holidays and days out and one in four say they won’t be able to fund activities like childcare and holiday clubs.

“Children are preyed on because of their vulnerability and organised criminal gangs can hide behind a child’s innocence to carry out a whole range of criminal activity, from drug running to stealing and cannabis cultivation. “We are really concerned about the impact the cost of living crisis is having on exploitation and the risk of it increasing as more families are pushed into poverty.”
