Budget 2025 brings changes from January 1st, 2025, aimed at easing the financial burden on Irish families. These include increases in social welfare payments, maternity and paternity benefits, and a universal energy credit. The national minimum wage will also rise, and the USC rate will drop.
Households across Ireland are continually being hit with price increases, but next month could see some relief as a number of changes from Budget 2025 take effect. The measures, which were first announced in October, start to happen from January 1, with a series of payment increases, tax changes and new benefits aimed at supporting families, workers and pensioners.
While certain cost-of-living bonuses and lump sums have already been paid out, these upcoming changes will offer more financial support as we head into the new year. Among the notable changes are a €12 weekly increase in social welfare payments, a €15 boost in Maternity and Paternity Benefits and a €125 energy credit for all households in Ireland. Additionally, the national minimum wage will rise to €13.50 per hour, the Universal Social Charge (USC) rate will drop to 3%, and a variety of other allowances and tax exemptions will come into play. The Government says these changes aim to alleviate some of the financial pressures that individuals and families are facing while the cost of living crisis continues.
