A planned re-run of Renfrewshire’s warm spaces project this winter has been hailed by the depute leader of theA total of £75,000 has been set aside to finance Winter Connections – a programme which sees organisations host events for people to connect with others in their community – for a second year in a row.
The initiative has been a key component of the local authority’s response to the cost-of-living crisis, having first been given the green light by elected members last September. Councillor Jacqueline Cameron, who is also chair of the Fairer Renfrewshire sub-committee, said: “Following the success of our Winter Connections programme last year, we will work with partners across communities to run a Winter Connections programme in winter 2023.
“More than 1,800 people attended activities and events arranged by 35 community groups last year as part of the programme, which improved social connection, reduced isolation and directed people to help and support as needed during the winter months. “Almost 2,000 people also attended OneRen libraries to participate in a range of activities such as family“This programme made a big difference to people in our communities and its success is a testament to the amazing work local groups and organisations do for our communities.Groups interested in running the free events or activities were able to apply for grants of up to £2,000 as part of the programme.
