Scott Ball / San Antonio ReportCouncilman Clayton Perry asked colleagues Monday to delay plans to take a vote calling for him to resign after he was involved in an alleged hit-and-run accident earlier this month.to decide whether to issue a no-confidence vote, a public rebuke of his actions, in addition to asking him to resign.

Perry reiterated that he has no plans to resign following the Nov. 6 incident near his home in Northeast San Antonio in which he allegedly left the scene of a car crash. He was arrested Thursday in connection with the crash, in which a black Jeep Wrangler struck a Honda Civic while making a turn that was too wide, and was under investigation for DWI.

“I’m very, very grateful to God that no one else was injured, and I humbly and respectfully ask for forgiveness,” Perry said of crash.Allies of the councilman said Monday morning that they plan to lobby the city to delay action until more is known about the situation. On Saturday, Gallagher wrote to Nirenberg and council members asking them to hold off on calling for Perry’s resignation.
