A couple's engagement holiday became a nightmare when they fell ill at a four-star Greek resort. Jessica Brecknock, 35, and Sam Cheston, 32, from Cotgrave, travelled to the Mitsis Family Beach resort in Kos for a week long holiday in May 2023.
She said this developed into severe sickness and diarrhoea that was so bad, she was confined to her room for the rest of the holiday. Jessica made her flight home on May 17, but her symptoms became worse, including feeling tired and breathless and on May 18, she attended A&E. "At first, I thought I had heatstroke until the symptoms got worse. I decided to hold out until I got home and expected things to improve. I was wrong.
Jessica pointed out that the illness may have affected her long-term. She said: “Even after being discharged, life hasn’t been the same. "It was all meant to be so wonderful and romantic and was completely ruined." The woman added that she is now scared to book her honeymoon following the unpleasant experience.
“The effects of such serious illnesses should never be downplayed as they can have serious long-term health implication for those affected. Understandably, our clients have many questions on how they fell ill.
