Maura Walsh, 79, and her 81-year-old husband Thomas have lived in their four-bedroom house in Youghal, Co Cork, for 55 years. Over the last 10 years, the property directly next to them has fallen into disrepair and its roof has collapsed.
An elderly couple have told of their fears that a derelict building attached to their home is about to collapse –destroying their house with it.
Their daughter Irene Karrouze, 51, is concerned for her parents’ safety, worried the wall connecting the houses will crumble now it is exposed. “The main worry for them is that they don’t know if the wall will collapse. They have lived there all their life. They love the house and they are extremely worried.”
“We live in a small seaside town, it is such a beautiful town but it has been in decline for many years now. One of the consequences of that is derelict buildings.”She said: “In January 2023, after years of my father trying to get action I decided to get something done.”
