Young couples in Dublin have received blessings at a Dublin church that houses relics of St Valentine
They were at the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Whitefriar Street, which is home to the relics of St Valentine."We were getting our rings blessed," said Orla Gavin.
"We're getting married this year, so we had the Valentine's Mass and it was lovely. It was really nice experience.""Valentines is all about couples getting together and just showing how special you are to each other, so it was very good." The young couples were slightly taken aback by the presence of news photographers there to capture the event."If we can manage seven photographers today here today, I think we'll manage one on the day.""The numbers are steady. Obviously, in recent years they have declined because people have more options of how they can celebrate their wedding, but we are delighted to welcome those who come," he said.
"The important thing for us is to make sure that they're very well prepared and supported, not only in preparation for marriage but in the early years of the sacrament as well." Also present were those renewing their vows, including couple Brigid and Gerard McQuaid, who have been married for 40 years."Communication, being open and honest, good communication," said Gerard.
