Courteney Cox, who played Monica Geller in the beloved sitcom 'Friends', has expressed her skepticism about a reboot ever taking place. While creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane have received numerous pitches for a revival focusing on the characters' children, Cox believes that any attempt to recreate the magic of the original series would fall short.
The 60-year-old star, who played Monica Geller in the beloved sitcom that aired from 1994 to 2004, recently shared with PEOPLE that she finds it "hard" to imagine the show being remade.
She feels that anything associated with a 're-' prefix wouldn't do justice to the original group's magic: "Anything with 're' in front of it with this group... I think it's so special." As Friends approaches its 30th anniversary, the actress is astounded by how quickly time has flown, telling PEOPLE: "It's just insane to me because it feels like time, it goes so fast and I don't realise it.
Cox, also known for her role in Scream, cherishes the enduring legacy of Friends, proud that the humour and characters resonate across generations: "That show is incredible. Every joke holds up, all the characters are just so amazing, and we the best writers in the world. I'm lucky that it continues on through all the generations. And that's very fortunate."
Recalling a conversation with The Times about celebrating Matthew - who tragically passed away in October 2023 from the "acute effects" of ketamine at the age of 54 - during the iconic sitcom's 30th anniversary, Marta suggested: "Two things come to mind : one of them is to donate to drug treatment centres - let's fight the disease."
