Illinois reported 3,838 new COVID cases and 12 new deaths Wednesday. Multiple Chicago area counites have been raised to a 'medium' risk level.
The Illinois Dept. of Public Health says "daily deaths reported on weekends and at the beginning of the week may be low" and "those deaths will be captured in subsequent days."Please note: The above video is from a previous, related report
The latest data shows just about 34% of Chicagoans in that age group are up to date on their shots. But those are also the people who face some of the greatest risks. While the bivalent booster has been available for people over 65 for months, seniors have been slow to get it. According to Chicago Department of Public Health, only 1 in 3 of Chicagoans over 65 have received the shot - and it's the same group that is driving an increase in COVID hospitalizations."They are still considered one of the highest risk populations for getting COVID," said Dr. Rene Roberts, Oak Street Health.
