A new variant has been detected in the UK and experts believe it could become the new dominant strain
Health experts have issued a warning about a new Covid strain, XEC, which could potentially trigger a fresh wave of infections in the coming months.

These figures - which account for all variants of Covid, not just XEC - cover the seven days leading up to September 11.
In Lancashire, Fylde recorded a rate of 7.33 - up from 3.67 the previous week. South Ribble is second with a rate of 4.5 while Blackpool comes third at 2.84.
