First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the move was needed to help stem the recent surge in the number of cases.

Concerns have been raised by nightclub owners about the fairness of passports being brought in for some venues and not others, while the SPFL said it hadIn July, Mr Yousaf highlighted concerns that the passports "might increase the inequality gap, and there would be ethical issues". Mr Yousaf added: "Ultimately, we are bringing this forward because we don't want to reimpose restrictions but that is always an option we have to consider, particularly if we see the rise in cases we saw last week."
