The legal fight is centred on evidence relating to Module 2 on how Boris Johnson’s government responded to the pandemic, which is classed as a different investigation to Module 1, on pandemic preparedness janemerrick23 reports
Public hearings for Module 2 are not due to start until October this year, when Mr Johnson and other key figures from the time will be called to testify at the inquiry.
Bereaved families have been concerned that the inquiry, which was first set up by Mr Johnson in May 2021, is already taking too long to start. The inquiry has spent two years gathering written evidence before its full hearings begin on 13 June. Baroness Hallett, who is chairing the inquiry, has made clear the breadth and depth of her investigations mean it will take several more years to conclude.
Earlier this week, she announced that the number of modules, or individual investigations, was being doubled from three to six. The last of these modules is not due to start public hearings until spring 2025 and hearings for all investigations are unlikely to be finished before 2026.
