“We still not voting for you!,” the Cowboys linebacker posted on Twitter about an hour after the news of Griner’s release became public. After receiving backlash including assumptions that he was a Donald Trump supporter, Parsons tried to clarify his initial comment, making reference to United States Marine veteran Paul Whelan, who has been in Russian custody since 2018.
“My last tweet was no shot at Brittney Griner,” said Parsons, whose great grandfather served in World War II and his father and two uncles also served in the military. “I’m super happy she’s back home as she should be. I just have family who have served and it’s crazy to me the President wouldn’t bring him home too. I’m the furthest thing from a Trump supporter but I’m not a fan of Biden either.”“Just spoke to some people that I respect and trust,” Parsons tweeted.
