Like most people at that age, I thought I knew everything and those parental units and authority figures were idiots.
QV: My father was a huge influence on me even though he passed away when I was a teenager. The lessons he taught me in childhood have stuck with me all these years. He was an engineer in the aerospace industry even though he did not have a college degree. What he did have was a combination of on-the-job experience, required knowledge, and job-specific classes and/or training under his belt. In other words, he was perfectly capable of doing the job even without the degree.
