The houses were in counties Clare and Laois and the Criminal Assets Bureau is likely to sell them for a combined fee of around €600,000

The Criminal Assets Bureau has taken control of two properties linked to crime in one day and is likely to sell them for a combined €600,000, it has emerged.

CAB said on Friday that Mr McInerney contested the move, but it was green-lighted by High Court Judge Mr Justice Alexander Owens. Bureau Legal Officer Kevin McMeel took possession of the assets on Monday just after 10am, CAB said. CAB will now sell the site – bought for some €223,500 in October 2010 – and hand the proceeds to the exchequer. CAB said as part of its probe, officers found evidence of international money laundering.

Mrs Cash had denied the CAB allegation that the house was bought from the proceeds of crime -and said she made the money for the house from working in Australia, as an escort and cleaner. But CAB alleged in court last year that Mrs Cash's husband, Andrew, as well as her brother Henry Kiely, are gang members heavily involved in burglaries throughout the island of Ireland.
