'It feels surreal to know that nine-year-old Sara’s wildest dreams of being a professional golfer have just become a reality'
Byrne went undefeated for Great Britain and Ireland last weekend as they beat the United States for the first time since 2016. The 23-year-old played in all five sessions in the Sunningdale showdown.
After finishing up her four years at the University of Miami, where she was on a golf scholarship, Byrne last month came through the first of the three qualifying school stages that have to be negotiated to make it onto the LPGA Tour next season. "I am delighted to announce that I have officially turned pro," she tweeted on X, along with a video of her playing golf as a child.
