The father-of-six was killed when he was struck by a lorry in a horror collision in Galway on Thursday
A cyclist in his 90s who died following a collision involving a truck in Co Galway earlier this week has been named locally.
The man has been named as Gerard Maloney of Bushypark, a father of six and a grandfather of nine. Gerard is predeceased by his loving wife Nóirín, who died in December 2023. "Our dear Uncle Gerard, young at heart, mind and body - you filled the room with your energetic spirit and warmth. We will miss you, love you and cherish the special moments shared last year forever. Our deepest condolences to the whole family. Love Kimi, Craig, Mila and Jago," a family member said in a message shared online.
While a fourth person wrote: "A beloved uncle, one of nature's gentlemen, who kept up that wonderful zest for living until he was taken so suddenly. A legend and role model. I will never forget his kindness to Mum and his warmth to all of us. Rest peacefully Uncle Gerard. You must be soaring high with the angels, reunited with your darling Noirin. Our deepest condolences to all my cousins. Anna and John.
