In a statement released by the owners of the hotel – referred to as Fairkeep Ltd – they confirmed they had “entered into an agreement” with the Department of Integration for the housing of IP applicants for the next two years.The Taoiseach was responding to concerns from Labour TD Ged Nash and Fergus O’Dowd of Fine Gael, who both represent the constituency of Louth.

“I’m sure those things can be sorted out… and that would be the best option, the best outcome for Drogheda.” Mr O’Dowd said the people of Drogheda were extremely angry and concerned they were losing their only remaining functioning hotel. “They are more than willing to play their part but this is not acceptable, they are losing a resource that is essential,” he said. “The policy is wrong and seen as arrogant and uncaring right now.”
