Waterford legend Dan Shanahan is managing Kilkenny side Bennetsbridge, who made it through to the Senior Championship semi-finals after a tasty sideline battle with Tommy Walsh's Tullaroan at the weekend.
Dan Shanahan interviews are always worth listening to. Get him after a big match win and it’s even better.
And the Lismore man, who was still playing for his club this year at 47, praised his entire 30 man squad, reserving a special word for Liam Blanchfield, who he said took a pain killing injection to play in the game. Shanahan said: “I do think we over played it in the backs. I’ll be brutally honest with you. I wasn’t happy.
“He got an important goal there. I am so delighted for the man. Again, if the ball was more direct going in, to Liam. I think he’d get a lot more from it. Shanahan continued: “This is the best Championship in the country. To win a county in Kilkenny, anyone could beat anyone. “We knew coming into the game how tough it was going to be. I think we got the bit of luck there in the end to win the game.”
