The hooker's superb performance sets first-up selection poser for stand-in boss Simon Easterby
Ireland may have been planning to open against England without Dan Sheehan in the mix, the hooker having been left behind as the squad headed for Portugal last week.
But Sheehan, expected to be the starting Lions hooker this summer in Australia, was even better for his 60 minutes - so much so that hindsight suggests Ireland management would have benefited from attending the game in Dublin. "A lot of work has been put into me, I've said it a few times now but Emma Galvin, my physio, has left absolutely no stone unturned and made my life really easy and I didn't have to make any decisions.
"If there was anything that I was hesitant about we could push it back, Obviously hoping that it'll be a big year. I wanted to play last week, I was itching to go. "It's probably a step up from anything I've done so far this season but there's no hesitation at all so I'll get over tomorrow and hopefully crack into another week's prep.
