John Nolan quickly became a fan favorite when Dancing With The Stars premiered on RTE in 2017. As one of the original professional dancer s in the first season, he shared the stage with notable names like Karen Byrne, Emily Barker, Curtis Pritchard, Sean Smullen, and Ryan McShane. During his six seasons on the show, Nolan partnered with a diverse range of celebrities, including Teresa Mannion, Deirdre O'Kane, Mary Kennedy, Grainne Seoige, and Leah O'Rourke.
He even claimed victory in the third season, dancing with Mairead Ronan. However, in 2023, fans were surprised to learn that Nolan was leaving the show. In a heartfelt Instagram post, he announced his decision to prioritize his leading dance school, Xquisite, and its new location in Kilkenny. 'The end of a chapter,' he wrote. 'I have decided not to return to @dwtsirl this year and focus on building the future generations with @xquisitedance and the brand new location in Kilkenny. A statement from Dancing With The Stars producers echoed the sentiment, expressing gratitude for Nolan's six seasons of entertainment, professionalism, and talent. They highlighted his memorable partnerships and his victory with Ronan. Since leaving the show, Nolan has remained dedicated to his passion for dance. He focuses on teaching at Xquisite, has judged world dance competitions at Blackpool Tower, and travels to watch his students compete internationally. Moreover, he has brought his successful theatre show, Puttin' On the Ritz, across Ireland, collaborating with Luke Thomas to deliver a captivating showcase of golden age Hollywood songs and dances. Prior to his departure from Dancing With The Stars, Nolan had already established himself in the industry, even appearing in the Disney sequel Disenchanted in 2022. Reflecting on his time on the show, Nolan told Kilkenny People, 'After six years dancing on the show, it only feels like yesterday when it all started. Never in my life did I think I would be flipping Mary Kennedy upside down and throwing her up on my shoulders! She was one of the best to work with and such a lady.' He also shared the demands of being a part of the professional cast, explaining how the preparation process began months in advance. From August/September, they focused on getting camera-ready for November's group numbers and promotions. Then, in December, training with celebrity partners began for the live shows, which ran from January to March.
