‘Danger to life’ warning issued as UK braces for almost a month’s rain in hours ⚠️ An upgraded amber warning for thunderstorms has been issued covering a swathe of England
More torrential downpours are set to hit the UK on Wednesday, with almost a month’s worth of rainfall possible in just a few hours.
The Met Office has issued an upgraded amber warning for thunderstorms covering a swathe of England from Chichester to Ipswich and including London and all of Kent. It runs from 11am to 10pm. Flooding of homes and businesses is “likely”, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.Travel disruption and power cuts are also “likely”.
A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in place for the rest of southern England and part of south Wales throughout Wednesday. Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan said up to 60mm of rain could fall in just a few hours. The average rainfall for southern England in the month of August is about 67mm.
