According to Boyle, the script contains 'a lovely idea' from original screenwriter Alex Garland.

"I'd be very tempted [to direct it]. It feels like a very good time actually. It's funny, I hadn't thought about it until you just said it, and I remembered 'Bang, this script!' which is again set in England, very much about England. Anyway, we'll see… who knows?"

Murphy, who starred in the first film, is also open to a return. He echoed Boyle's thoughts in the interview."Every time I do bump into Danny or Alex I always mention it," Murphy said. "Because I showed it to my kids recently, some Halloween about four or five years ago, and they loved it. It really stands up, which is amazing for a film that's 20 years old. So yeah, I love the idea and it's very appealing to me."

The 2002 flick was made for just $8,000,000 and has become a landmark British horror movie. Both a critical and commercial hit, making over $80 million in the box-office, '28 Days Later' is also credited with launching Murphy's career. Garland, the screenwriter for the film, has gone on to enjoy major success of his own in the horror genre, writing and directing films like 'Ex Machina', 'Annihilation' and this year's 'A possible threequel has been batted around the rumour mill for years now and Boyle's and Murphy's most recent comments will add further fuel to the fire. Let's just hope that this time it leads to something concrete.
