Despite this, Elfman says he’s only once collaborated with another artist – meaning writing music together – on a song for, with Siouxsie and the Banshees. But increasingly he meets young musicians whose childhoods were soundtracked by his film scores, like Tyler, the Creator, whom he worked with on.
Now in his fifth decade as a musician, he’s working on another Coachella show and the score for Noah Baumbach’s forthcoming film“My view of life is you’re on a giant escalator and every step is another year of your life,” he says. “Somewhere just ahead of you is the Grim Reaper. You get one more step and wham! He’s got you. You’re f**kin’ gone. And you can see behind you, but you can’t see ahead. It’s just a blur.
