The Cabinet will meet incorporeally on Thursday to sign off on the decision.
Dara Calleary is to be appointed as the new Fianna Fáil Super Junior Minister to replace Finance Minister Jack Chambers, the Irish Mirror understands. This is when Ministers are called to sign off on a decision rather than meeting formally. Taoiseach Simon Harris is currently in Brussels at a European Council meeting.
Mr Calleary is currently a Junior Minister in the Department of Enterprise. He previously served as Minister for Agriculture and resigned in the midst of the Golf Gate scandal. He will serve as Minister of State at the Department of Transport with responsibility for International and Road Transport and Logistics and at the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications with special responsibility for Postal Policy. Both of these ministries were held by Chambers until his elevation.
